This session discusses the characteristics and skills required
to succeed in consulting. It will address, at a high level, some of the options
available for entry, some of the risks, some of the pitfalls, and some of the
rewards of a consulting practice. It will also talk broadly about some of the
basic processes like determining a niche (vertical – industry specific or
horizontal – discipline specific), importance of image, defining geography to
be served and identifying prospects, and
requirement of client service
This session will be most beneficial to men and women who are
considering a career in consulting or have recently begun a practice.
Edward Stone was President of the Association of Management Consultants
when it merged into IMC. He has served as national Chair of IMCUSA and
represented IMCUSA at ICMCI meetings in Capetown, South Africa and Goa, India. He has chaired the IMC National Meetings in Newport Beach in 1990 and Seattle in
Edward Stone began his practice of marketing consulting and market
research in 1976, it grew to a firm of 7 with a broad clientele of nationally
known Fortune 100 clients. He sold the business in 2004 and retired in 2006.
Edward Stone has presented programs at a minimum of 20 IMC National Meetings
and Western Confabs and recently was very engaged in the development and
presentation of the IMCDFW 24-hour, 6-week QuickStart program earlier this
